On September 26, from 19:30 to 22:00, the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS) flung open its doors for Researcher Night 2025, inviting the public into the thrilling realm of science.
At LIOS’s Researcher Night, attendees didn’t just watch — they experienced:
- Outdoor fire show to ignite curiosity (quite literally)
- Grand chemical experiment showcases indoors, turning reactions into spectacles
- Guided tours through chemistry labs, and chances for people to conduct experiments themselves
- A bacteria lab for peering into the microscopic world
- Themed creative workshops for kids, mixing imagination with science
- Molecular computer modeling sessions — “see” molecules move and interact
- A “journey through the human body” exhibit, showing where a swallowed pill “disappears” and how it travels in us
Through this eclectic mix, LIOS offered a backstage pass into science: how researchers hunt for new compounds, how discoveries evolve into medicines, and what drives scientists every day.
We were delighted to see MR LATVIA represented by PhD student Jana Petkus and Dr. Ruslans Muhamadejevs. They:
- Shared their personal paths and research stories — showing that real science has real people behind it
- Answered curious questions from students, parents, and adult science fans alike
Their presence underscored what MR LATVIA is all about — making research accessible, engaging, and human.
Events like Researcher Night turn abstract science into a lived experience. They let people see experiments, ask questions, and realize: science is not distant — it’s dynamic, creative, and full of surprises.
Thank you to every visitor who joined us. And a special salute to the dedicated scientists and support teams who made the evening possible.
